Nikos Giatrakos is an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Technical University of Crete, Greece. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at the same School from 2022 to 2026. He received his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Piraeus in 2006, his MSc in Information Systems from the Athens University of Economics and Business in 2007, and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Piraeus in 2012. His research focuses on Big Data management, including streaming and real-time analytics, distributed and decentralized data processing, federated machine learning, edge-to-cloud data management, approximate query processing, and complex event processing. He received the Best Demo Award at ACM CIKM 2020 and has contributed to several EU-funded research projects, including as co-coordinator of the H2020 INFORE project and Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe EVENFLOW project.
