Vassilis Plachouras obtained a PhD from the Department of Computer Science of the University of Glasgow, (2006). He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Yahoo! Research, Spain (2006-2009). Since 2010, he has led the research and development team of the startup company PRESANS and in 2011 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Informatics (LiX) of Ecole Polytechnique, France. His research interests include information retrieval, distributed data management systems, information extraction and applications of machine learning. He has served as a program committee member for several international conferences and journals. He has been the chair of the program committee for workshops and tutorials of the 30th European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR'08) and a co-chair of the Discovery Challenge at ECML-PKDD 2011. He has authored more than 25 papers in international conferences and journals, and is the co-recipient of the best paper award at the 18th ACM Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM 2009).
